History
Nonograms, also known as Paint by Numbers, are a logic puzzle where a grid of cells must be filled in or left blank according to numbers at the edges of the grid. This reveals a hidden picture! These puzzles are usually black and white, a binary image, but more complex ones can add colors to the mix.
Nonograms are not usually found in newspapers or magazines, but you can find many online or in apps for phones and tablets.
Fun fact: The first Nonogram was created by using skyscraper lights by the co-creator, Non Ishida! Another person, Tetsuya Nishio invented the same puzzle independently!
